About Us

Hailing from Missoula, MT after getting their start in Chicago, IL, Mendelssohn brings a fiercely original sound to the stage. Fronted by husband and wife duo Jon Filkins (vocals, guitars) and Sarah Marker (vocals, keys, trumpet), the band forges an unlikely but exhilarating mix of folk-rock and ‘70s-era power pop with the layered arrangements and sophisticated songwriting reminiscent of acts like Wilco, Band of Horses, and Grizzly Bear. Dan Weiss (drums, percussion, woodwinds) Jake Whitecar (guitars, keys, folk instruments) and Peter Puczkowskyj (guitars) fill out the band's layered sound. With the release of their first full-length record, Years, Mendelssohn will be touring the Pacific Northwest and Rocky Mountain regions to bring their engaging and memorable music to new cities and new ears.

"[Mendelssohn's] harmonies were incredible as was the overall chemistry of the band. [They] truly understood musical dynamics, playing a set that ebbed and flowed..."

"In the indiscriminate land of indie rock... chord progressions get recycled and weary, and those edgy and intellectual lyrics quickly seem a little less edgy and intellectual. Soon enough, it all just blends together. Mendelssohn doesn't have that problem."

Test Pressings Approved & Cookin!

After getting a second bad batch of test pressings from the vinyl mastering & pressing company in LA with whom we were originally working, we made the decision to start the entire process over. This original company made this decision very easy by being generally awful to work with. If you would like to press to vinyl, we do not recommend them (contact us for suggestions). Even though they initiated the offer of a refund, they made it extremely difficult for us to get our money back. After consulting with…Read more

Test Pressings

We received and previewed the vinyl test pressings from the pressing plant. Everything is sounding spectacular, but there are a few issues that will require some adjustment by our friends at the plant. This means our physical copies of Years will be delayed a little, but you can look forward to the digital release coming soon! Pre-orders for Years will also be available here within the next few weeks.

Music Video: Thursday

This winter we filmed our first music video for our song "Thursday." We tracked this tune in the living room above our normal recording/practice space on a wintry afternoon. This video documents that process.
